How to edit the compensation in a contract

Updated over 5 months ago

You can adjust the compensation for a contractor and update their contract to include this change if needed.

To change contractor's compensation:

  1. Under the People menu, go to the Team tab and click the name of the contractor to go to the contractor’s details page.

  2. Click on the Compensation tab.

  3. To change the compensation, click the pencil icon next to the Compensation section.

  4. A modal will open when you see the current compensation and the option to add new compensation.

  5. Add information on new compensation, currency, and wage type.

💡 Please note: You can also specify the reason for this change and when you'd like the change to apply.

  6. Once done, click "Save all" to confirm the change.

If the contractor is assigned to payroll, allowable changes (i.e., changes for unprocessed pay periods) will be immediately reflected in payroll.

On the Compensation tab, you can also track historical data of past and upcoming compensation changes

To check compensation history:

  1. Under the People menu, go to the Team tab and click the name of the contractor to go to the contractor’s details page.

  2. Click on the Compensation tab.

  3. To check the compensation history, click the clock arrow icon next to the Compensation section.

  4. A compensation history page will open where you can see the historical compensation changes. In addition to showing when a compensation went into effect or is scheduled to go into effect, it also displays the date the change was added and by whom.

After making the compensation changes, if you prefer, you can create a new contract to reflect this change.

To create a new contract:

  1. Under the People menu, go to the Team tab and click the name of the contractor to go to the contractor’s details page.

  2. Click on the Documents tab.

  3. On the right side of the Documents page, click "Add Contract."

  4. Select the country from the dropdown and choose whether you want to use Plane's locally compliant contract or upload your own.

    1. If you choose to use your own contract, ensure you have the signed contract from both you and the contractor. Click the "Choose File" button to upload the contract, then click "Create contract" to finish.

  5. If you choose to use Plane's locally compliant contract, the page will show the required information to be filled in to have the contract generated. Complete all fields as needed and click "Create contract" to finish.

ℹ️ Important: Make sure to include the new amount and contract start date according to the changes you made to the compensation earlier.

  6. Once you review and sign the contract, it will be available in the contractor's profile to sign.

  7. After the contractor signs the new contract, you can terminate the former contract if needed.
