When scheduling a payment or setting up payroll, you may notice that the earliest available pay date is not immediately available.
This is because payment dates are calculated based on several factors, including processing time and the time required to send funds to global contractors.
Turnaround time for one-time payments
The standard processing time for contractor payments is 4 business days.
When you schedule a one-time payment in the Pay contractors tab, the earliest available payment date will usually be four business days from the current date.
Example
If a payment is scheduled before Monday at 12 PM PT, the earliest available pay date will typically be Friday.
The exception to this is when you have a balance in your Plane account. You can add money by going to the Balance tab and clicking on 'Add money.' If you use only this to pay global contractors, you’ll be able to schedule the payment for an earlier date, typically, the second business day from the present day.
Please note: Maintaining a Plane balance does not change the total 4-day payroll processing period. Plane balances only shorten the processing period to two days for one-time payments.
Once you’ve scheduled a payment, Plane will start collecting the amount from your bank or Plane account the next business day. This is regardless of the payment date you selected. However, if you schedule a payment before noon PT on a business day, we will start collecting funds on the same day.
Processing time for payroll
Payroll payments require additional setup time.
Typically, at least 5 business days are required to schedule the first payroll payment.
This timing may vary depending on:
The pay frequency
The selected pay date
If a scheduled payroll pay date falls on a weekend, it will automatically move to a business day (Monday–Friday).
