What is Plane Agent?

An overview of Plane Agent and how it can help.

Overview

Plane Agent is your AI teammate. Ask it about your team, payroll, payments, onboarding, time, or compliance, and it'll work through your Plane workspace to give you a useful answer. It's like having a thoughtful coworker who has read every record in Plane and is happy to answer at any hour.

Safety is a primary concern, so we started Plane Agent with questions, lookups, and reports. Taking action on your Plane data — running payroll, editing worker records, sending changes — is the next phase, and one we're approaching carefully.

Today, Plane Agent is available in Slack. We're bringing it into Plane itself next, and then possibly other places after that.

Plane Agent is now in closed beta. If you're not already part of the program, you can sign up at plane.com/agent.

What you can ask

Plane Agent is good at the kinds of questions you'd otherwise dig through several screens to answer. The simplest way to start is to just ask "What can you help me with?" The agent will list its capabilities and offer example prompts.

Or jump straight in with one of these:

  • "Who's starting in the next 30 days?"

  • "What's the cash requirement for my next payroll?"

  • "What is Karen Alpine's compensation history?"

  • "What's the status of Alex Chen's contractor payment?"

  • "Which contractors are missing W-8 or W-9 forms?"

It's designed for natural language — no special syntax, no need to know the exact name of a screen or report. Ask the way you'd ask a person.

What Plane Agent does

Answers questions

Look up workers, profiles, compensation, reporting lines, payroll status, blockers, payments, charges, refunds, time off, timesheets, compliance gaps, expenses. It pulls from the same data you'd see in Plane, and it summarizes when a summary is more useful than a list.

Follows up on your behalf

When the answer points to people who need a nudge — contractors missing a W-9, new hires who haven't accepted their invitation — Plane Agent can email those workers directly so you don't have to chase them one by one.

What Plane Agent doesn't do (yet)

Today, Plane Agent doesn't approve payroll, edit worker records, change compensation, create offers, or modify anything in your Plane workspace. If something needs to change in Plane, you make the change in Plane — and the agent can help you understand the result.

These capabilities are on the roadmap. We'll add them as they're ready.

Closed beta

Plane Agent is in closed beta with a small group of customers. A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Capabilities, formatting, and tone will improve week over week.

  • We want your feedback. Tell us what worked, what didn't, and what you wish it could do.
