If your organization invited you to join Plane as a U.S. employee, this guide explains how to complete onboarding and what information you’ll need before your payroll can begin. The new onboarding flow shows you a dedicated onboarding page with only the tasks assigned to you.
Before you start 📝
Your organization must first start onboarding and send you an invitation to Plane. Once you accept the invitation, you’ll be able to create your account and complete the onboarding tasks needed to get set up for payroll.
Step 1️⃣: Accept your invitation and create your account
Click the invitation link in your email and follow the prompts to create your Plane account. After you sign up, you’ll be taken to your onboarding page, where you can track what’s left to complete.
Step 2️⃣: Complete your onboarding tasks
Provide personal details
Enter your legal name, date of birth, and citizenship.
Enter administrative details
Provide the required identification details, including your Social Security Number (SSN).
Add your address
Enter your residential address. For U.S. payroll, your address must be located in the United States.
Set up your bank account
Add the bank account where you want your direct deposits sent.
Complete withholding forms
Complete Form W-4 to determine your federal tax withholding. If needed, you may also be asked to complete a state withholding form. You’ll review and sign these forms electronically in Plane.
Choose tax form delivery
Select how you’d like to receive year-end tax documents, such as your Form W-2.
Start employment eligibility verification
Begin the Form I-9 process by completing Section 1 and providing the required identity and work authorization documentation. After that, your employer or their authorized representative will complete Section 2.
FAQs
What happens after I finish my tasks?
Once you complete your required tasks, your organization may still need to complete some employer-side compliance steps, such as reviewing your I-9 documents. Once all onboarding tasks are complete, your profile and payroll information will be fully set up.
Can my organization complete some steps for me?
Your organization may be able to help with some steps, but anything that requires your personal signature or legal attestation must be completed directly by you.
Will I be able to track my progress?
Yes. Your onboarding page shows the tasks you’re responsible for completing, so you can track your progress in one place. You won’t see tasks assigned to your employer or admin.
