Completing a new Form W-4

Instructions for US employees on how to submit a new W-4 for federal income tax withholdings

Updated over a week ago

Form W-4 is required for US employees so the correct federal income tax is withheld from your pay.

When you are invited to Plane for the first time as a US employee, completing Form W-4 is required for onboarding. Depending on where you work, you may also be asked to complete a state-specific withholding form. You may need to submit a new W-4 or state withholding form during the year, which will take effect on the next payroll.

Submitting a new Form W-4

Go to Taxes, and click 'Edit' on the Tax setup section to access your previously-completed Form W-4.

Click on 'Federal W-4' to view it.

To submit a new form, click 'Regenerate and Sign' and follow the prompts.

Be sure to click 'Sign and Submit' to apply the changes.

State-specific withholding forms, if applicable, will also be available on Tax setup. New state withholding forms are submitted using the same steps.

Withholding changes will take effect on your next payroll run, provided it hasn't started to process yet. If your next paycheck has already started to process, the changes will take effect for the next pay period.
