Plane facilitates seamless integration of benefits for your US-based team, with support for both employer contributions and employee deductions directly through payroll. While we are not a benefits broker, Employer of Record (EOR), or Professional Employer Organization (PEO), we are happy to offer general guidance to assist you in evaluating your options. Please note that benefits are not administered by Plane; therefore, employers are responsible for coordinating directly with their benefit providers to manage and fund their plans.
Here are some of the benefit types you can offer your US team through Plane.
125 Medical | FSA Medical | 401(K) |
125 Vision | FSA Dependent Care | Roth 401(K) |
125 Dental | HSA | Simple IRA |
Healthcare
When it comes to healthcare, one of our partners is SimplyInsured. Plane is integrated with SimplyInsured to help automate payroll deductions for healthcare. You can transfer your existing plan to SimplyInsured so they become the broker of record or find a new plan if you are eligible to make a change. This option minimizes the administrative effort in payroll. If you want to explore SimplyInsured, you can do that directly in Plane and get quotes.
If you find a benefit plan through another broker, we can also configure that in Plane. You’ll only need to let us know when there are plan changes (including employer and employee contributions). Since we currently do not have a user interface in the product to administer this, you can work with us via support@plane.com to manage any changes.
Besides the above, many customers opt for an ICHRA plan or a QSEHRA using options such as TakeCommand. These plans are often good options for startups who don’t yet qualify for good group plans. Most of our customers have adopted ICHRA over QSEHRA for the flexibility. Customers who choose this option generate a reimbursement report from the ICHRQ or QSEHRA provider and then edit payroll in Plane to add reimbursements. If you’re using TakeCommand or any other option, you can reach out to them for further guidance. On our end, we’ll explain how you administer reimbursements via payroll to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you prefer, you can also check out other group plans with a broker.
Here are a few things to note;
Plane does not integrate with TakeCommand. Given this, you would reimburse employees via payroll.
TakeCommand has an auto-pay option. If you are using this option in their higher-tier plan, then Plane’s payroll run is not affected. Employees are reimbursed directly via TakeCommand. However, we will need a year-end report from you for the appropriate W-2 reporting and compliance.
If you are not using the auto-pay option with TakeCommand, then we process recurring reimbursements in Plane. You’ll have an option to self-administer these in our platform.
Here’s more information on ICHRA;
An Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA) is an employer-sponsored health benefit that reimburses employees for their individual health insurance premiums and other qualified medical expenses. Unlike traditional group health plans, an ICHRA allows employers to provide tax-free reimbursements for employees who purchase their own individual health insurance (including plans from the ACA marketplace) rather than offering a traditional group health plan. Here’s how ICHRA Works;
Employer sets the budget - decide how much to offer employees monthly.
Employee buys individual health coverage - it has to be a qualified plan.
Employee submits proof of coverage - this can be through an online portal or third-party administrator (TPA).
The employer reimburses employees via Plane tax-free.
Retirement Plans - 401(k)s
With Plane, you can ensure the appropriate employer contributions and employee deductions for 401(k) plans (traditional or Roth) are handled in payroll. To help automate the process, we have an integration with Guideline. Customers can explore and enroll directly via Plane. However, if you are using another provider, you can work with us through Support to communicate changes, and we’ll configure these on your behalf.
Questions? We’re here to help! You can find more of our guides here, contact us at support@plane.com, or use Plane's in-app chat.
