Document label updates: What’s changed and why

Understanding how previous document categories are mapped to the new labeling system.

Overview

As part of the new Documents experience in Plane, we’ve introduced improved labels to simplify document organization and make important files easier to find. This includes retiring older document categories and replacing them with the new labels.

Below is a breakdown of the changes, including updated mappings and an explanation of how labels are assigned.

Label changes at a glance

We’ve simplified and standardized our document labels. Here are the most common category changes:

Documents previously categorized as Employment

Documents categorized under the preivious "Employment" category are now labeled based on document content. We use keyword matching on filenames to assign labels.

Note: Some documents may remain unlabeled if the filename doesn’t match known patterns. Manual label editing will be supported in a future update.

What you need to do

You don’t need to take any action. Your documents can be viewed in the New Documents interface.

If you notice documents with missing or incorrect labels, don’t worry — this will be editable soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact us at support@plane.com or use Plane's in-app chat.
